The Kidney Service Cebu at Perpetual Succour Hospital provides specialized care for patients with kidney diseases and related conditions. Our department offers hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplant services.
As one of the hospital’s Centers of Excellence, the Kidney Service has served patients for more than four decades. Our team focuses on safe treatment, patient comfort, and coordinated kidney care.
The Kidney Service began operations on May 13, 1984. On this date, Perpetual Succour Hospital performed its first hemodialysis procedure.
In 1987, the hospital’s Kidney Transplant Unit performed the first kidney transplant outside Manila. Later, in 1997, the hospital established the first accredited Adult Nephrology Fellowship Training Program outside Manila.
Today, the Kidney Service continues to provide specialized kidney care through its dialysis and transplant units.
The Kidney Service offers different treatment options based on each patient’s medical condition. Our healthcare team coordinates with nephrologists and other hospital professionals to support patient care.
Hemodialysis is a treatment that removes waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys cannot perform these functions adequately.
During treatment, a dialysis machine filters the patient’s blood. Sessions follow a schedule determined by the treating nephrologist.
Our Hemodialysis Unit provides scheduled dialysis services for eligible patients.
Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdomen to help remove waste products and excess fluid from the body.
This treatment may be suitable for certain patients with kidney failure. However, the choice of dialysis method depends on medical assessment and individual needs.
Our Peritoneal Dialysis Unit supports patients receiving this form of kidney treatment.
A kidney transplant is a treatment option for some patients with kidney failure.
The Kidney Transplant Unit forms part of the hospital’s specialized kidney care services. Transplant eligibility depends on a comprehensive medical evaluation.
Patients should consult their nephrologist to discuss possible treatment options and referral requirements.
The Kidney Service also provides emergency dialysis when clinically indicated.
Emergency dialysis may be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, treatment depends on nephrologist approval, machine availability, and the patient’s condition.
For urgent medical concerns, patients should seek immediate medical attention through the hospital’s Emergency Room.
